Sporting inspiration at Celebrate Gold Coast

18 October 2017

Gold Coast kids will get an insight into being an elite athlete at Celebrate Gold Coast later this month.

This year, the family-friendly annual event includes free interactive sporting events, live entertainment, a line-up of food trucks, an array of Active & Healthy activities, a wellness market, fitness demos and a Ninja Warrior-style obstacle course.

Acting Mayor Donna Gates said the event encouraged the Gold Coast community to embrace the excitement and enthusiasm of the Commonwealth Games.

“Gold Coasters love their sport, so it was a no-brainer for us to host an event that celebrates the Gold Coast’s active and healthy lifestyle,” she said.

“In the lead up to GC2018, this is the kind of event that helps to inspire our future locally grown sports stars.”

Celebrate is on 28 October from 11am-4pm at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre, Carrara.

To cap off the day, the NBL returns to the Gold Coast, with the Brisbane Bullets taking on Melbourne United at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre at 4:30pm.

Brisbane Bullets General Manager Richard Clarke said basketball has always had a major presence on the Gold Coast.

“Fans will see everything that is great about NBL basketball – high energy, speed, athleticism and great entertainment, and the fans really are part of the action,” he said.

“One of the highlights is the opportunity to get up close to the players after the game, as they stay on the court to meet the fans and sign autographs - something that you don’t see in most professional sports.”

Gold Coasters can claim a 25 per cent discount to the NBL game – visit and use the code: BULLETSGC

Other sporting activities featured at Celebrate will include squash, tennis, table tennis, netball, bowls, cricket, basketball and athletics.

To add to the fun and games, an inflatable obstacle course, rock climbing wall and mechanical surfboard will be available for the young ones to tackle.

Attendees can also go into the draw to win a brand new Honda Civic Vti Auto Hatch, thanks to Von Bibra Auto Village.
