Share your big idea for our CBD’s Main Street

Stakeholder and community feedback is being sought to inform a plan to revitalise the Gold Coast CBD’s main street into a dynamic world class destination.

The Gold Coast CBD Main Street Revitalisation project is focussed on Nerang Street, Southport, from High Street in the west to Marine Parade / Southport Broadwater Parklands in the east.

The project is a key initiative of the Gold Coast CBD Program 2025 and aims to help position the CBD as a dynamic destination for business, investment, education and leisure.

The City has appointed consultants H2 – comprising local architects HHH and multidisciplinary firm Hassell - to create the plan in collaboration with key stakeholders and the community.

Once complete, the plan will provide an overarching vision, key strategies and priority projects to direct future improvements and investment on Nerang Street.

Division 6 Councillor Dawn Crichlow said the plan was an important step in bringing businesses, jobs and more people onto the streets of Southport to create a vibrant CBD.

“It is a key opportunity to reinvigorate the connection between the Broadwater and the old hospital site. The plan will provide a vision and direction for improvements in Southport after the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games,” she said.

The plan will consider public realm, transport, economics, built form and social and cultural aspects to create a world class outcome for the street.

Cr Crichlow said there would be opportunities for the community to provide feedback on the draft plan when it is released later this year through the City’s Have Your Say.

The final plan is expected to be finalised by late 2017.
