School’s out and it’s Game On across the coast

4 December 2017

A unique school holiday program focused on the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) launches this week.

One program targets the Games with mini competitions based on some of the key sports to be contested next April.

Acting Mayor Donna Gates said the Game On Kids Holiday Program was a great way for kids to embrace the excitement and enthusiasm of GC2018.

“Game On provides kids with a variety of sport and lifestyle activities in our parks, pools and community centres, right across the city. There is an activity for everyone and it’s a great way to keep the kids active and entertained over the holidays,” Cr Gates said.

Game On highlights include:

  • My Athletix All Stars Series
  • Game On mini Commonwealth Games days
  • Ninja warrior obstacle madness
  • Game On Rugby
  • Pop up sports playgrounds; and
  • Splashtacular water fun.

Sports coach Helen Thompson-Coleman said the My Althetix events were perfect for children aged five to 10.

“Gold Coast kids are so excited about the Commonwealth Games and love trying lots of different sports,’’ she said.

Sports ambassador, Australian sprint champion Riley Day, is part of the Game On program and will assist children to join in.

The Game On Kids Holiday Program runs from 9 December to 21 January 2018.  Some activities require bookings. Visit for details.

The Australian and Queensland governments, through the Embracing 2018 Legacy Program, are proudly supporting the Game On Kids Holiday Program.
