Operation Stonefish Phase 2: Bring in the nets

28 July 2017

A netting campaign will start in the popular Evandale Lake to capture the elusive stonefish first sighted early this month.

The lake has been fenced and closed to the public since the sighting on 18 July. After an unsuccessful attempt to capture the deadly fish last week, Council is moving to phase two.

“We have engaged a professional team to net the lake in an attempt to capture this stonefish,” said Cr Gary Baildon.

“All species netted will be identified and potentially dangerous marine animals will be removed.”

The netting will start next week and is expected to take seven days. The lake will remain closed.

“We are working hard to ensure the lake is safe for swimming before reopening it to the public,” said Cr Baildon.
