Mayor wants to ‘make it six in a row’ for low rates budget

16 February 2017

Mayor Tom Tate is working towards the sixth year of record low rate increases - but he needs Gold Coasters to help shape the 2017-18 budget.

“Next year’s $1.4 billion City budget is the most important in our city’s history,” said Mayor Tate.

“For the past five years, Council has kept rate increases to record lows. Let’s do it again.

“In April next year, we will host the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games™.  This global event will put us on the world stage so there’s a lot to do next year.

“With your help, through this budget we will enjoy greater investment in local jobs, better environmental outcomes and a continued sense of optimism about the city we love.”

The Mayor will attend a range of listening posts across the Gold Coast so residents can provide their feedback in person. The posts will be at community centres and shopping precincts with details at: GCHaveyoursay.com.au

The community can also provide feedback online through www.gchaveyoursay.com.au/budget1718

Community consultation closes on 28 April with the budget delivered at Full Council in mid June.
