Making Southport a globally competitive CBD

20 October 2017

A program to revitalise our CBD to catalyse economic growth and investment in the area is now open for community consultation.

The CBD Program 2025 also aims to connect the CBD to the Broadwater, embed smart technology and embrace our outdoor lifestyle.

Division 6 Councillor Dawn Crichlow today said the program aimed to achieve the City’s vision of Southport as a vibrant urban centre, rich in cultural diversity for domestic and international business.

“Our CBD is more than a city centre; it is a dynamic downtown of opportunity that is brimming with opportunity,” she said.

“Whether you’re studying, making a mark in business or indulging in one of our many restaurants, our CBD is a melting pot of colourful stories and characters.

“Home to Gold Coast Chinatown, the CBD is already bustling with new Asian-inspired businesses, restaurants, and popular events like the Chinatown Street markets.

“The program will deliver exciting projects, events and opportunities for businesses, residents and students in the area and in the long term create economic certainty for our CBD,” said Cr Crichlow.

From today, you’re invited to have your say on the future of the CBD at www.gchaveyoursay.com.au

Everyone who has their say will go in the draw to win a $400 voucher for the recently upgraded Australia Fair shopping centre in Southport, along with double passes to Event Cinemas.
