Lifeguard services and City parking - statement from CEO

27 March 2020

Statement from City of Gold Coast CEO, Dale Dickson:

Lifeguard Services

The City of Gold Coast’s professional lifeguard service will continue to operate business as usual at this time.

We are aware that Surf Life Saving Queensland has reduced its volunteer service to surveillance, response and rescue only from tomorrow (Saturday, 28 March).

In view of SLSQ’s recent decision The City is  now reviewing its operations with a view to potentially minimising confusion for beachgoers.

The city is very appreciative of the volunteer service provided by SLSQ.

Volunteer lifesavers and City Lifeguards are taking recommended health and social distancing precautions and we ask beach goers to follow suit.

City Parking

From Saturday 28 March, in an effort to support local business and employees, the City will switch off all its on-street and off-street parking meters city-wide.

The rate for Bruce Bishop and Jubilee carparks will be capped at $5 per day. Mal Burke carpark in Southport will be free.

Parking officers have been instructed not to issue fines for parking offences across the city except in circumstances where illegal parking is causing a safety risk or preventing the free-flow of traffic.
