1 April 2017

LATEST INFORMATION – 9PM 1 APRIL 2017

Our Disaster Centre remains open.

We are moving in to a recovery phase while still keeping response activities going where necessary.

Our current focus is on the north where high water levels are remaining.

City crews are assisting Logan City Council at the same time.

Current Recovery focus includes:

Getting debris off all local roads - more than 200 City staff are out working to get storm water pipes and grids unblocked and cleared and facilities cleaned.

We estimate upwards of 4000 tonnes of green waste is spread across the city. Crews have been picking that up through the day.

Water:

The Tugun Desalination Plant is operational.

We have no significant water supply issues across the city.

Key State Road actions:

Springbrook‘s two entry roads are both damaged and there is currently no access. Do not try to drive to Springbrook.

There is no access up the eastern side from Austinville. Do not attempt to drive up that way.

Tugun Bypass is now open – all info at 13 19 40 or dashboard.cityofgoldcoast.com.au or NSW Traffic 132 701

An assessment of John Muntz Causeway will be held in the next few days.

Energex:

1561 homes still without power at 9pm. Down from a peak of more than 10,000.

Health Services - QLD Health:

All swimming areas have been affected by stormwater run-off due to the recent heavy rainfall across the Gold Coast.

Stormwater run-off can increase pathogen levels in the water and make it unsafe for swimming.

SES:

Number of call outs – 408 completed.

Beaches:

Lifeguards will monitor closely and make assessments throughout each day. Listen to on-the-ground advice at each beach.

Ideally, stay away. The water is messy and debris is in the waves.
