Hinterland backdrop to celebrate Gold Coast

24 September 2015

Swap screen time for some green time and escape to the hinterland this weekend to Celebrate Gold Coast.

As the name suggests, this free family festival is about everything quintessentially Gold Coast - our culture, lifestyle, food and fun.

There’s no shortage of activities, with some of the four-legged stars of Australian Outback Spectacular’s High Country Legends, including Red Dog, on hand to meet the kids.

Acting Mayor Donna Gates caught up with some of the stars today to check on preparations for the event.

“Last year’s Celebrate Gold Coast festival was held by the beach at Coolangatta and was a huge success with more than 17,000 attending”, said Cr Gates.

“I have no doubt festival-goers will love this year’s hinterland setting and embrace the theme, the “green behind the gold”.

Australian Outback Spectacular General Manager, Shane Phillips said families attending the event will have the chance to meet some of the animal stars from the new High Country Legends show.

“We are really excited to be involved with the Celebrate Gold Coast Event and look forward to showcasing some amazing performances throughout the day,” said Mr Phillips.

The four Findlay sisters who make up the Australian rock band Stonefield will feature on the music stage along with local music acts Ella Fence and Jimmy the Saint and the Sinners.

Accustomed to cooking under pressure for a TV audience, Paul Bullpit, a My Kitchen Rules contestant, will be whipping up tasty dishes from local produce in live, onstage cooking demonstrations.

Festival-goers will also be able to grab lunch from the fresh food markets, peruse the ITAVA market stalls, see wood chopping demonstrations, let the kids run ragged in the obstacle course and much more.

The festival kicks off at 10am on Sunday 27 September, limited parking available onsite at the Parklands. Park and Ride is also available from the Nerang Council Administration Building located at 833 Southport-Nerang Road. Shuttle buses will run between 10am and 4.30pm.
