Getting Active & Healthy with yoga in the sky

17 July 2015

Now into its 10th year, the City’s Active & Healthy program launched its latest lifestyle guide at the Gold Coast’s highest yoga class early today.

Held at Q1’s Skypoint bright and early this morning, residents enjoyed a yoga class accompanied by spectacular views.

Acting Mayor Donna Gates said the program was all about getting Gold Coasters up, out and active.

“Over the past 10 years thousands of residents have participated in the Active & Healthy program, which makes integrating fitness and wellbeing into our lifestyles easy, convenient and affordable,” Cr Gates said.

“Our latest Active & Healthy lifestyle guide kicks off from 20 July 2015 and it offers free and low cost activities weekly across the city.

“As we head towards the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games™ sport and recreation is high on our city’s agenda.  In fact, we’re working on becoming Australia’s leading active and healthy lifestyle city.

“Wherever you live on the Gold Coast, there is an activity nearby.  Whatever your level of fitness, there’s something to suit you. And with more than 150 activities each week, there’s plenty to choose from,” she said.

Councillor Gates said the best way to find an activity is view the full program on moregoldcoast.com.au/activehealthy

“Simply search for the activity you want to do, the location or the date. Why not try yoga by the sea, tai chi in the park, deep water running or learn how to make wholesome meals in one of the healthy cooking workshops?  There is no time like the present to get active, connect with others and discover a healthier lifestyle,” she said.
