Food, fun and fireworks on Australia Day

23 January 2018

You’re invited to celebrate Australia Day with friends and family at the Broadwater Parklands with food, live music and fireworks.

Acting Mayor Donna Gates said locals and visitors could spend the day soaking up the sun before heading to our iconic parklands for the free and relaxed event from 4pm onwards.

“You can fill up with some fabulous food from the all-nations food trucks and the kids can enjoy the JJ Richards ‘Adventure Zone’, which includes challenging obstacle courses and inflatable activities.

“Pack your picnic blanket so you can relax on the lawn while you listen to some live and local music including sets from The Twine, Sunset City and Cheap Fakes.

The fireworks display at 7.45pm is set to rival New Year’s Eve and will feature some new elements like fly boards, jet skis and jetpacks,” she said.

To get there, catch the G:link to Broadwater Parklands or make your journey active and walk, ride, scoot or skate to the event.

There will be no parking available at Broadwater Parklands on the day. However, Southport is exempt from parking charges on public holidays. Parking areas close to Broadwater Parklands include Cloyne Road, Mal Burke Car Park and Carey Park Car Park.

Please note the Parklands are an alcohol free zone.

Australia Day is proudly hosted by Channel Nine’s Jayde Cotic and supported by JJ Richards, Nine Gold Coast News and 92.5 Gold FM.
