Coronavirus (COVID-19)

17 March 2020

The City continues to work under the guidance provided by the Australian Department of Health and Queensland Health in managing the risks associated with Coronavirus (COVID-19).
It is important that we all take appropriate steps to protect ourselves and others.

What are the symptoms of Coronavirus?

Common signs include:

  • fever
  • a cough
  • sore throat
  • fatigue
  • shortness of breath.

What can I do to protect myself?

To protect yourself and others from infection, practise good hand and respiratory hygiene including:

  • cleaning hands with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rubs
  • covering your nose and mouth with a tissue or flexed elbow when coughing or sneezing
  • avoiding contact with anyone who has symptoms such as fever, a cough, sore throat, fatigue, and shortness of breath
  • staying home if you are unwell.

You should also try and stay at least 1.5 metres away from people coughing or sneezing.

Event cancellations

Given the Prime Minister’s recommendation that non-essential gatherings of more than 500 people should not go ahead from Monday 16 March 2020 in a bid to contain the Coronavirus, a number of upcoming events have been impacted. We are working with event organisers to assess the impacts of this recommendation while carefully monitoring this evolving situation in an effort to keep people informed following this advice. Details will be provided through our Facebook page and on as they come to hand. Thanks for your patience and understanding.
