Celebrate Gold Coast with The Beautiful Girls

22 September 2016

The Beautiful Girls will headline Celebrate Gold Coast, the city’s free community event to kick start summer.

To be held at Chevron Island on Sunday 9 October from 10am to 4pm, this year’s event will have a vintage feel and a village atmosphere.

Mayor Tom Tate urged the community to put the date in the diary.

“This is our fourth annual Celebrate event and it’s become somewhat of a Gold Coast institution,” he said.

“It will be a day with a laid-back feel to enjoy one of our city’s best villages. Along with the excellent music line up, there’ll be retro-inspired activities for everyone to enjoy.”

The Beautiful Girls is an Australian surf-roots-reggae music group, founded in 2001. Supporting music acts include the Hot Potato Band and local group Ivey.

Other activities include a circus school, skateboard, BMX and scooter demonstrations, suitcase rummage and ‘crafternoon’ (craft activities).

Chevron’s food and beverage outlets will offer cheap eats and street food menus.

Thomas Drive will be closed in the centre of Chevron Island for the event. Traffic will be diverted around the outside roads.

Celebrate Gold Coast is supported by 7 NEWS Gold Coast, SEA FM, Blank GC, Bendigo Bank, Gold Coast Waterways Authority and Chevron Island Traders Association.
