Cast your votes in time for Christmas

1 December 2015

The City has flicked the switch on the annual Christmas Light Competition and is encouraging all residents to vote for their favourite displays.

Now in its 23rd year, there are 43 entrants in the running this year.

Mayor Tom Tate said it was traditionally left to a panel of judges to pick the winner but it’s now up to Gold Coasters to choose their favourite displays.

“The entrants have put a lot of time and money into their displays so I encourage all residents to show their support by visiting the light displays,” he said.

“We’ve made it really easy for people to vote on the spot by SMS using each entrant’s unique voting code.”

Voting for your favourite entry is easy and could make one lucky voter $500 richer. Simply text your full name, address, state and postcode, along with your favourite entrant’s unique code to 1970 1234, SMS cost $0.55 (incl GST).

The entrants will compete for a share in more than $4000 and accolades in four categories - residential display; first year entry; single feature (e.g. tree, window); and non-residential.

Every display will be in the running for the Grand Champion prize.

In creating their light displays, entrants were encouraged to consider visual appeal, uniqueness, overall impact, variety of decorations used, energy efficient and the environment.
