Biggest Gold Coast businesses Love to Ride

30 September 2015

Two of the largest employers in the city have thrown down a challenge to all Gold Coast businesses in an effort to get more people riding.

City of Gold Coast and Gold Coast Health have registered early for the city-wide cycling challenge known as Love to Ride.

They join Cardno, Wyndham Vacation Resorts and Robina State School among the 34 business already signed up.

Mayor Tom Tate said the city has set its targets high for the inaugural year of the challenge.

“We’re aiming for 100 businesses and more than 1,000 people across the city, taking to the streets, bikepaths and shared paths.

“This challenge is all about encouraging people to hop on a bike so they can experience the benefits of riding first hand,” he said.

Gold Coast Health’s Mara Bennett, who oversees staff wellness program Team Health, said the organisation was committed to helping employees get on their bikes.

“Cycling is a great way to stay active and we offer a range of initiatives such as group rides, workshops and discounted kits to ensure more people embrace it as a way of life,” she said.

“As well as being good for the environment, cycling is a healthy and inexpensive way to commute to work and we are proud to accept the Love to Ride challenge.”

The Challenge is all about participation so organisations that get the most staff riding for just 10 minutes will win prizes.

People can cycle anywhere they like, anytime they like over the four-week period.

There will be a live league table showing which organisations are currently in the lead.

There are a whole host of prizes that people can win just by participating, including a new bike, a washing machine and 200 cinema tickets.

Love to Ride runs 1 to 31 October. Registrations are open and it’s free to participate.
